AB 12 (Bass and Beall): Extension of Foster Care Services Until Age 21

CYC celebrated the landmark passage of AB 12 (Bass and Beall, Chapter 559, Statutes of 2010). CYC partnered with child welfare advocacy organizations for 2 years to ensure the passage of AB 12. Foster youth now have the option of staying in care until the age of 21 with increased foster care placement options (including independent living and school dorms) and services until the age of 21. AB 12 allows California to receive federal money for these services. Subsequently CYC worked to further clarify extension services by working on AB 212 (Beall, Chapter 459, Statutes of 2012) and AB 1712 (Beall, Chapter 846, Statutes of 2012).
