Mercedes Parker-Gilmore

Mercedes is the Community Advocacy Coordinator for the Northern Region. She provides foundational resources for youth-led advocacy and leadership development activities in her region. Her role includes expanding the membership base, increasing volunteer participation, developing sound organizing strategies in collaboration with members, and strengthening engagement by supporting member leadership.

Mercedes chose CYC because she has a passion for serving young people in her community, especially those who are impacted by systemic harm. Mercedes has a dual-bachelor’s degree in Economics and African Studies with a concentration in Community Development and has been a part of a variety of youth development efforts in Sacramento, including the Freedom Schools program, local after school programs and juvenile justice realignment. 
 
Mercedes loves all things nature and outdoors including hiking, gardening and camping.
