Janel Brown, Director of Operations

As the Director of Operations, Janel fulfills a multi-faceted role, overseeing the organizations daily functionality and ensuring alignment with its strategic goals. Her role involves improving organizational efficiency, supporting cross-departmental collaboration, and ensuring that outcomes are effectively measured and aligned with CYC’s mission.
Janel brings over 20 years of experience in nonprofit operations, data systems, and resource management to her role as Director of Operations at CYC. She previously served at the California CASA Association, where she held several key positions over the course of her tenure. As the Data and Technology Manager, she focused her efforts to modernize and streamline internal systems, ensuring effective data collection and reporting across a statewide network of programs in California. She later transitioned into the role of Marketing and Program Manager, expanding her expertise into communications, while providing support in training and technical assistance to ensure program compliance. These roles equipped Janel with a strong foundation that focuses on the use of strategic technology to make a significant impact in the digital era.
Janel is excited to be part of CYC because she sees a deep alignment between her values and CYC’s purpose, empowering young leaders to create meaningful change in their communities. She is inspired by the opportunity to contribute to a youth-driven organization where every operational decision supports a larger vision of leadership and equity in the lives of system involved youth.
When Janel is not working, she devotes her time to her greatest joys—her three children and beloved grandson. She also loves escaping to the scenic California coast, where she finds peace and inspiration in the sound of the waves and the ocean breeze, with a camera in hand.
