Jamie was hired in 1991 by CYC to facilitate a 150-person group envisioning the future of CYC, and its work organizing foster youth in California. As a foster care survivor, she says, “the CYC project was like coming home.”
Now as the director of the Youth Training Project, she feels she is doing the work she was meant to do: “I am good at expanding the space around people so they can breathe, express, imagine, heal, grow…be.” In 2013 Jamie organized a group of nine former foster youth and allies to make a cultural exchange trip to South Africa. She is very passionate about international travel and learning and led a group to organize an exchange in the Philippines in 2014.
Inspired by YTP wellness retreats, she has become a student of Muay Thai Kickboxing. She also enjoys riding her bike, bad reality TV, public radio, and making community with former foster youth. Originally from Gardena, California, Jamie received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and a Master’s in Social Work from San Francisco State University.
