Tanene Allison is a communications strategist and poet who works at the intersection of policy, organizing, and messaging. Her career includes having served as the VP of Communications and Marketing at Democracy Works, as the Communications Director at the Texas Democratic Party and Planned Parenthood Texas Votes, and in political and communications roles at a documentary film company, a civil rights law firm, and MTV. As a teenager Tanene ran away to San Francisco where she was blessed to meet an incredible woman who became her godmother. Tanene’s godmother raised close to a hundred children over her lifetime, biological, foster, and otherwise chosen. While in San Francisco, Tanene got her start in organizing and was appointed to the San Francisco Youth Commission, where she learned personally the power of young people leading around policy creation. She spent her undergrad at San Francisco State University and received an MPP from the Harvard Kennedy School.
